What Makes Our Asbestos Program Unique?

Quality training that employers insist on

UC Berkeley is known worldwide for its asbestos training. We were one of the first five EPA training centers. Now top businesses, contractors, regulatory agencies, schools, and the military rely on us for their asbestos training needs. Many students tell us that their employers have tried other training providers but that they now insist on UC Berkeley.

Instructors with real-world experience

Our instructors are specialists with real-world experience. Some asbestos training providers feature one or two instructors, who may or may not have any practical experience with asbestos issues. We feature multiple experienced instructors in each of our core asbestos courses. Some of the most experienced asbestos inspectors and contractors in California present up-to-date information on the latest work practices and equipment. We list the course instructors’ names under each course title. You find more information about most instructors in the instructor biography section.

Elaborate hands-on workshops

Our hands-on workshops are more elaborate then those provided by most other schools. In our supervisor course you won’t just build small decon chambers. You’ll wear a respirator and protective clothing while you use HEPA ventilation units, tape, and plastic sheeting to develop a complete negative pressure enclosure for several entire rooms. You’ll do a complete glovebag removal and scrape fireproofing from steel beams.

In our inspection course, you’ll work in a team with an instructor and a few other students to conduct a mock inspection, take samples, and use a polarized light microscope.
